Project Description

Hair cells are required for proper auditory and vestibular function and their loss underpins hearing loss and balance dysfunction. Unlike the inner ear organs of non mammalian species, limited or no spontaneous hair cell regeneration occurs in the mammalian organs. Our laboratory aims to translate our knowledge gained from understanding how hair cells are developed to induce hair cell regeneration in both the damaged auditory and vestibular organs. We are also interested in correlating regeneration at a cellular level with functional recovery at a system level.
